Lukashenko barred from Lithuania
September 26, 2004 – 11:31 amBelarus President Alexander Lukashenko and more than half of other politicians and public servants of the country in Lithuania became persona non grata.
As explained by Secretary (Deputy Minister), Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Deyvidas Matulionis, Lithuania decision on sanctions on Belarus, in fact, is not enforceable Lithuania, and the sanctions the European Union (EU), and Lithuania, as a member of the EU, only subscribes to them.
The list included the ministers of law enforcement agencies, the Attorney General, the head of the KGB in Belarus, the Speaker and some members of parliament, members of the electoral commission, only about 60-70 persons against whom the EU applied sanctions.
