In the collider protons collided at record speeds
In the Large Hadron Collider have passed the first beam collisions at energies 1.18 teraelectronvolt. This was reported in one of the sites CERN.

Results of collisions recorded detector ATLAS. The previous record belonged to American Tevatron accelerator in which beams collided at energies of 0,98 teraelectronvolt.

The first beams with record energy were obtained on the night of 29 to 30 November 2009, and their collisions were to be held on December 4. However, the experiment had to be postponed due to a series of failures in the accelerator, like Лента.ру.

So, first on November 2 in the French part of the CERN turned off the light, and later, on November 7, a problem in the cooling tank. During the second accident, many feared that it could have serious consequences for the accelerator – a problem in the cooling system has become the cause of disabling BAC in September 2008. On elimination of the consequences of the September accident, it took more than a year. However, new problems have been resolved fairly quickly.

LHC is the most powerful accelerator in the world of elementary particles. Physicists plan to use it to find the mysterious Higgs boson, as well as testing of various physical theories. It is, in particular, supersymmetry and the existence of hidden dimensions.
